PayPal Unveils PayPal World to Unite Global Digital Wallets

PayPal World connects UPI, Weixin Pay, Venmo, Mercado Pago plus other digital wallets in a single network to simplify cross-border transactions before its fall launch

Overview

  • Alex Chriss says PayPal World will bring the world’s largest payment systems and digital wallets onto one interoperable ecosystem serving nearly two billion consumers and businesses.
  • Launch partners include NPCI International Payments Limited (UPI), Tenpay Global (Weixin Pay), Venmo and a memorandum of understanding with Mercado Pago, with ongoing technical and commercial negotiations for Latin America integration.
  • Through the platform, PayPal and Venmo users will be able to send money to anyone worldwide via local wallets, even if the recipient is not a PayPal user.
  • Set to go live in fall 2025, PayPal World is built on a cloud-native, multi-region architecture designed for low latency, high availability and robust security.
  • Additional features planned include offline merchant payments for Venmo in 2026 plus phased onboarding of further wallet partners to broaden network coverage.
