PayPal Launches PayPal Plus Loyalty Program in Germany

PayPal intends the low-rate points, milestone bonuses, and in-app merchant deals to nudge users to make more payments through its wallet.

Overview

  • PayPal began rolling out PayPal Plus in Germany in September 2026 and is enabling access gradually through the PayPal app.
  • Members earn one point for every €5 of eligible spending, and points can be used at checkout or converted into PayPal balance at a rate where 100 points equal €1 in Blue status.
  • The program has two tiers: Blue and Gold, with Gold reached at 4,000 points and raising the online redemption value by 20 percent plus up to €5 monthly cashback on linked subscriptions.
  • In-store earning is allowed only when using the PayPal Card or PayPal’s Ratenzahlung To Go and is capped at 1,000 points per month; friends-and-family transfers and some merchant categories are excluded and points expire under a three-year rule.
  • Observers say the base return is modest (about 0.2 percent at Blue) but PayPal hopes milestone bonuses, merchant offers, and compatibility with other loyalty schemes will increase wallet use and repeat transactions on its platform.
