Payouts to Begin Monday as Nanded Becomes First to Get Full Crop-Loss Relief in Maharashtra

The state will transfer ₹553.48 crore to Nanded farmers under fixed per-hectare rates, with other districts to follow in a phased rollout.

Overview

  • Heavy August–September rains damaged kharif crops on 63.58 lakh acres across 30 districts, according to the agriculture minister.
  • Direct bank transfers start September 22 after eligible farmers’ names are uploaded to the government portal through a special drive.
  • Nanded recorded losses across 648,533 hectares affecting about 7.74 lakh farmers, and an additional ₹20.81 crore is sanctioned for erosion and silt damage.
  • Compensation rates are set at ₹8,500 per hectare for rain-fed crops, ₹17,000 for irrigated crops, and ₹22,500 for horticulture.
  • The government has released over ₹627 crore so far and says it is open to declaring a wet drought that could extend benefits beyond compensation.
