Pawlikowski’s Fatherland Debuts Second Trailer as MUBI Confirms Fall Release
The Cannes-winning director’s black-and-white road movie will play the New York Film Festival before opening in U.S. theaters on October 23, 2026.
Overview
- MUBI released the film’s second official trailer and poster on Thursday, Sept. 10, 2026, to coincide with its festival‑to‑theatrical rollout.
- Fatherland premiered at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival where Paweł Pawlikowski shared the Best Director prize.
- The film stars Sandra Hüller and Hanns Zischler as Erika and Thomas Mann on a postwar road trip across a divided Germany with August Diehl, Devid Striesow, Anna Madeley and others in supporting roles.
- Critics highlight Łukasz Żal’s black-and-white cinematography, the film’s tight 82‑minute runtime and its squarish 1.37:1 aspect ratio as deliberate stylistic choices.
- MUBI will screen Fatherland at the New York Film Festival and open it in U.S. theaters on October 23, 2026, and critics suggest the film continues Pawlikowski’s thematic throughline and may shape its awards season profile.
