Pawan Singh Returns to BJP Fold as NDA Targets Bihar’s ShahabadMagadh

BJP leaders say he will work for the NDA to help repair caste fractures in the key western belt before the state polls.

Overview

  • Pawan Singh met RLM chief Upendra Kushwaha in Delhi, received his public blessing, and was presented by BJP in-charge Vinod Tawde as a BJP worker who will campaign for the NDA.
  • He also met Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP president J. P. Nadda, saying he was never away from the party as his re-entry was effectively affirmed by senior leaders.
  • Party insiders say discussions are underway on his political role, with reports pointing to possibilities such as an assembly ticket from Ara or Barhara, an organisational post, or an MLC/Rajya Sabha berth, none formally announced yet.
  • His independent run in Karakat in 2024 split NDA votes and contributed to losses in the region, as he polled about 2.74 lakh votes while Kushwaha trailed and CPI(ML)’s Raja Ram Singh won.
  • The rapprochement is being folded into the BJP’s Operation Shahabad strategy to consolidate Rajput and Kushwaha support and reverse the alliance’s poor 2020 and 2024 results in Shahabad and Magadh.
