The Royal Mint has launched a special £5 coin collection celebrating Paul McCartney, marking the first time the legendary musician has been honored in this way.
McCartney, 82, contributed to the coin's design, which features his 'magic piano,' piano notes, a Höfner violin bass guitar, and the Wings logo.
The coins are part of the Royal Mint’s Music Legends series, which has previously featured artists like David Bowie and the Rolling Stones.
A unique plectrum-shaped coin made from sustainable gold was gifted to McCartney, inspired by his early use of pennies as guitar picks.
A signed, five-kilogram gold coin, requiring over 250 hours to produce, will be auctioned next year alongside four silver editions.
