Paul Ince Jailed for Eight Years for Manslaughter of John Ithell

The judge called the single punch “mindless, drunken aggression” against a frail 59-year-old.

Overview

  • Mold Crown Court ordered Ince to serve at least two thirds of his sentence under a determinate term after deciding he is not a dangerous offender.
  • A jury of six men and six women delivered a majority manslaughter verdict on October 17, acquitting him of murder after about seven hours of deliberation.
  • Prosecutors said Ince moved the concussed victim to a bench to distance himself from the assault and left him to fend for himself.
  • The blow in a Wrexham garden sent Ithell into a wooden fence, causing a fractured skull and brain bleed, and he died at hospital more than four hours later.
  • The court heard Ithell had knocked on the wrong door while seeking drugs, was described as extremely frail, and the judge said Ince showed little if any remorse.
