- Kalei Mau wrote that she was found unresponsive on Nov. 20, placed in a medically induced coma, and slept for six days after what she called an extremely rare blood infection.
- She said the infection reached her placenta and, as her organs failed, their daughter died in utero; the couple named her Ka ua, meaning “The Rain” in ʻŌlelo O Hawaiʻi.
- Mau said she is now recovering at home, thanked Massachusetts General Hospital for saving her life, and expressed gratitude for the Patriots’ support.
- Jahlani Tavai missed the Patriots’ trip to Cincinnati to be with Mau, with teammates dedicating a touchdown to him and FaceTiming him from the locker room after the win.
- Tavai returned on Dec. 1 against the Giants, was named a game captain by coach Mike Vrabel, and emotionally addressed the postgame huddle.
