Overview

  • The Patiala House Court on July 25 directed Tihar Jail authorities to submit a detailed response to Rana’s request for telephone access to his family.
  • Rana’s judicial custody has been extended until August 13 following his April 10 extradition from the United States after the Supreme Court rejected his review plea.
  • The court had earlier allowed Rana a single supervised call on June 9 under jail rules but has declined to grant ongoing family communication.
  • The NIA has obtained Rana’s voice and handwriting samples and plans to escort him to Mumbai and other cities to reconstruct the sequence of the 2008 attacks.
  • Investigators allege Rana supplied David Headley with handwritten notes, coordinates and maps used in planning the 26/11 Mumbai attacks that killed 166 people.
