Having removed its longstanding budget cap earlier this year, the Gotham Awards now allows films of any budget to enter the race. However, some big-budget films chose not to submit for consideration.
The awards are given out by the Gotham Film & Media Institute, known for supporting independent film and media creators. Over the past 19 years, 25 Gotham nominees have gone on to receive Oscar nominations for Best Picture.
The Gotham nominations were chosen by diverse committees made up of critics, journalists, curators and festival programmers. The ceremony will also honor performers who directed their films.
