Overview
- Shortly after takeoff from Thessaloniki the cabin lost pressure when a passenger window separated from a Malta Air-operated Ryanair plane, forcing oxygen masks to drop and the aircraft to descend.
- Passengers told Greek media they heard a loud bang and saw one man’s head, neck and shoulders partially pulled through the open window before fellow travellers pulled him back into the cabin.
- A local hospital source said the 61-year-old passenger was treated for neck and shoulder injuries and friction burns and was in generally stable condition on arrival.
- Ryanair said the aircraft landed normally back in Thessaloniki, passengers returned to the terminal, and a replacement plane was provided to continue the trip to Memmingen in Germany.
- No official technical findings or regulator announcements have been published so far and some reports that debris from an engine caused the break remain unconfirmed.
