Overview
- The pursuit began around 3:30 a.m. on the near southwest side near West Troy Avenue and Westbrook Avenue.
- Officers attempted a traffic stop after learning the registered owner had active felony warrants.
- The driver fled at more than 100 mph, weaving through lanes and briefly traveling against traffic along Kentucky Avenue, Harding Street and Raymond Street.
- The fleeing car struck a turning semi at Raymond Street and Harding Street, killing a female passenger and critically injuring the male driver.
- The semi driver was unhurt as investigators shut the intersection for an extended probe, and Capt. John Arvin warned that pursuits pose grave risks and urged motorists not to flee over warrants.
