PAS Wins Majority in Moldova, Securing Pro‑EU Mandate

The result strengthens Maia Sandu’s drive to advance EU accession reforms.

Overview

  • With nearly all ballots counted, the election commission put PAS at about 50.2% of the vote, translating to roughly 55 of 101 seats and an absolute majority.
  • The pro‑Russian Patriotic Block finished around 24%, while Alternativa (~8%), Nostru (~6.2%) and PPDA (~5.6%) also crossed the 5% threshold to enter parliament.
  • Turnout was about 52%, and the overseas diaspora vote was widely seen as pivotal to the outcome.
  • Authorities and Sandu alleged Russian meddling through disinformation, vote‑buying, cyberattacks and bomb threats, which Moscow rejected as unfounded.
  • Igor Dodon disputed parts of the process and urged protests as he weighed legal steps, while EU leaders congratulated the result and OSCE observers praised orderly voting but flagged access concerns, including limited polling in Russia and the late exclusion of Herz Moldaus.
