Overview
- The eclipse runs from 17:29 to 21:53 UTC on September 21, corresponding to 10:59 pm to 3:23 am IST (Sept 21–22), with the maximum at 19:41 UTC (1:11 am IST).
- Viewing is concentrated in the Southern Hemisphere, including eastern Australia, New Zealand, Antarctica and Pacific islands, and it will not be visible from India or the United States.
- In some locations the Moon will cover up to about 85% of the Sun, producing a pronounced crescent shape rather than darkness.
- Experts urge use of ISO 12312-2 compliant eclipse glasses or proper solar filters, or indirect methods like pinhole projection, since regular sunglasses do not protect eyes.
- This is the final eclipse of 2025, with an annular solar eclipse on February 17, 2026 and a total solar eclipse on August 12, 2026, while India next sees a solar eclipse on August 2, 2027.
