Overview
- The year's final solar eclipse runs from 10:59 pm IST on September 21 to 3:23 am IST on September 22, peaking at 1:11 am IST.
- Viewing is limited to parts of the Southern Hemisphere, with prime visibility in eastern Australia, New Zealand, Antarctica and the Pacific.
- India, along with much of Asia, Africa, Europe and most of the Americas, will not see the event because the Sun is below the horizon locally.
- In some locations the Moon will cover up to about 85% of the Sun, with the deepest coverage expected near Antarctica.
- Indian outlets note the overlap with the final day of Pitru Paksha and share traditional dos and don’ts, including spiritual observances even though the eclipse is not visible.
