The Moon will be low near moonset and sunrise so only viewers with a clear, elevated western horizon are likely to get a good view.

  • The partial eclipse will begin when the Moon enters Earth’s umbra at about 4:33–4:34 a.m. CEST on 28 August, reach a maximum of roughly 93–94% coverage around 6:12–6:13 a.m., and conclude as the Moon sets in morning twilight.
  • Visibility will be limited because the maximum nearly coincides with moonset and dawn, so observers should seek an elevated site with an unobstructed view to the west or west‑southwest.
  • No special eye protection is needed for a lunar eclipse and binoculars or a small telescope can help, but weather, low horizon haze, and the brightening sky may make the deep partial phase hard to spot.
  • The late‑August event follows a partial solar eclipse on 12 August and comes during a season of active showers; astronomers point to the Draconids, Orionids, Leonids and the strong Geminids later this year as other viewing highlights.
