Partial Collapse at Grade II* Former Church in Cleckheaton Triggers Road Closure

  • CCTV captured masonry falling from the façade moments after pedestrians noticed debris, narrowly missing two people.
  • West Yorkshire Police said the incident happened around 10am Saturday, sending stone onto the pavement and into Bradford Road.
  • The road was closed as West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service and Kirklees Council highways teams secured the area and began clearance.
  • The Monal, which operates at the site, reported no injuries and said staff are assessing the hall to restore operations.
  • The two-storey building, constructed in the 1850s as a United Reformed Church and later home to Aakash, is Grade II* listed, and no official cause has been announced.
