Overview

• The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Education, chaired by Rajya Sabha member Digvijaya Singh, completed a two-day review in Leh with data briefings from the Department of School Education & Literacy and site visits to Druk Padma Karpo School, SECMOL and HIAL.
• Committee members raised concerns over persistent teacher vacancies, gender gaps in sanitation facilities, delays in scheme fund releases and limited internet connectivity in remote areas.
• Chief Secretary Dr. Pawan Kotwal outlined upcoming recruitment drives, increased budget allocations and a slate of infrastructure projects aimed at strengthening school facilities.
• Officials committed to expanding digital connectivity, enhancing hostel capacity and upgrading sanitation to ensure more equitable access to quality education.
• The committee will incorporate findings from presentations and field visits into its final recommendations to guide policy and funding decisions for Ladakh’s education reforms.
