Park Chan-wook’s ‘No Other Choice’ to Open 30th Busan International Film Festival

After debuting in competition at Venice, the black-comedy survival thriller will serve as the opening-night centerpiece at BIFF with Lee Byung-hun serving as its first solo male host.

Overview

  • The film is slated to vie for the Golden Lion at the 82nd Venice International Film Festival before its Asian premiere at Busan.
  • BIFF’s 30th edition runs Sept. 17–26 and will for the first time include a competitive slate of 14 Asian titles contesting five awards.
  • Lee Byung-hun and Son Ye-jin lead the cast as Man-su and his wife A-ra, marking their first on-screen pairing.
  • Adapted from Donald E. Westlake’s novel The Ax, the film follows a laid-off father’s darkly comic battle to secure a new job.
  • Neon has acquired North American distribution rights and CJ ENM plans a domestic release in September following the festival run.
