Overview
- The temporary construction radar was installed at Porte de Montreuil on August 24 to enforce a 30 km/h limit in a work zone normally limited to 50 km/h.
- The motorists' group 40 millions d'automobilistes recorded 18 flashes in about five minutes and published estimates that the device could generate unusually high daily fine revenue.
- On Friday authorities announced the radar's production of procès-verbaux had been neutralized because of erratic technical functioning and the Procureur de la République de Rennes decided to classify recorded infractions without further action.
- Drivers who already received notices will be informed by mail of the annulment and the Agence nationale de traitement automatisé des infractions handled the legal processing.
- The radar has not been permanently removed and state services are discussing a new emplacement and technical fixes with the City of Paris while the Porte de Montreuil works continue through phased plans up to 2030.
