Overview
- A temporary "radar de chantier" installed on 24 August at Porte de Montreuil on the Paris périphérique was set to enforce a 30 km/h work‑zone limit and quickly recorded many flashes, prompting public complaints.
- The motorists’ group 40 Millions d'automobilistes filmed 18 flashes in about 4–5 minutes and used that rate to estimate very large potential daily fine revenue, fueling media attention and driver outrage.
- On 4 September the Préfecture de police announced it had neutralized the radar’s production of procès‑verbaux after identifying intermittent technical faults, and the Parquet of Rennes classed the related infractions without further action.
- Déléguée interministérielle Estelle Balit said the device will be removed while authorities carry out a technical and siting review and discuss with the City of Paris where to place or how to stabilise enforcement for works running through 2030.
- Drivers who already received notices will be informed that their contraventions are cancelled and authorities have signalled a wider check of temporary work‑zone radar placement and operation across the city.
