Paris Prosecutors Open Probe Into Alleged Covert Recording of Legrand–Bloch Conversation

The case has been assigned to the BRDP after complaints over a private talk said to have been captured and relayed by rival broadcasters.

Overview

  • The Paris prosecutor's office confirmed it has opened an investigation into a possible clandestine recording of a private exchange between journalist Thomas Legrand and former France Inter director Laurence Bloch.
  • The probe has been entrusted to the Brigade for the Repression of Delinquency Against Persons (BRDP), the unit handling crimes against individuals.
  • Legrand filed complaints in late December, including one against persons unknown for illegal recording and another targeting Europe 1 and CNews for alleged unlawful conservation, disclosure and use of the material, as well as dissemination of false news.
  • The conversation reportedly took place on December 15 in a brasserie in Paris's 14th arrondissement and was referenced the next morning by Europe 1 and CNews.
  • Prosecutors had already opened a separate inquiry on December 25 into an earlier clandestine recording involving Patrick Cohen and Thomas Legrand.
