Paris Prosecutor Opens Inquiry Into Culture Minister Rachida Dati Over Alleged Undeclared Jewelry

Dati denies wrongdoing despite rules that require officials to declare assets above €10,000.

Overview

  • The Paris prosecutor’s office told AFP it is investigating whether Dati omitted jewelry from her mandatory asset filing following complaints alleging a possible violation.
  • Libération reported in April that the items were worth about €420,000, while Blast estimated the value at up to €600,000.
  • French ministers must submit asset and interest declarations to the HATVP upon taking office, and items valued over €10,000 must be reported.
  • In May, Dati said on France Inter that she had nothing to regularize and had never made errors in her declarations.
  • She is also implicated in a separate corruption and influence case linked to Carlos Ghosn, with a trial date expected to be set on 29 September.
