- The City of Paris inaugurated the École du périscolaire on Monday, September 7, as a new centre to train vacataires, contractuels and titulaires who work in after-school programmes.
- The school launches a compulsory 100-hour course for 3,000 titular and contractual animateurs with a target of training 500 people per year, while a separate 48-hour prevention course has been required since February for about 14,000 animateurs.
- Paris says it has committed more than €20 million to a multi-axis plan that bundles training, recruitment, contractualisation and victim support and that it ultimately wants to scale up to tens of thousands of courses per year.
- The rollout comes as the city maintains 132 administrative suspensions, the Parquet de Paris pursues more than 200 criminal investigations into alleged violences in périscolaire settings, and roughly fifteen families have announced intentions to sue the city and former officials.
- Unions and critics say the non-diploma 100-hour courses and current training capacity will not by themselves fix underlying problems of precarious contracts, uneven qualifications and day-to-day supervision, and the mayor faces a Senate commission hearing on September 16.
