Paris Opens Child-Protection Probes Into Shein, AliExpress, Temu and Wish

After banning sex dolls worldwide, Shein faces a parliamentary hearing plus the risk of a French market block for any repeat offense.

Overview

  • Paris prosecutors assigned four inquiries to the Office des mineurs into the platforms for making pornographic or degrading content accessible to minors, with Shein and AliExpress also probed for images depicting minors in a pornographic context.
  • The DGCCRF triggered the cases after flagging childlike sex dolls and broader access to adult content; Arcom confirmed it was notified of the matter.
  • Shein says it removed all listings and visuals, imposed a global prohibition on sex dolls, temporarily dereferenced its adult category, expanded keyword blacklists, and will fully cooperate with investigators including on buyer data if requested.
  • Economy Minister Roland Lescure warned he would seek to block Shein’s access to the French market in case of recidivism, while high commissioner for Children Sarah El Haïry called for checks on purchasers to assess risks to nearby children.
  • Shein’s BHV Paris opening will proceed as protests continue and partners reconsider ties, with agnès b. exiting the store and Galeries Lafayette’s provincial partnership with the BHV operator being unwound.
