Paris Ends Sales of Paper Metro Tickets Across RATP Network

Riders now transition to digital passes promoted for faster boarding and less waste.

Overview

  • Existing cardboard tickets remain valid, with bus and tram acceptance ending on May 1, 2026 and rail network acceptance ending on June 1, 2026.
  • A small number of targeted machines continue selling magnetic origin–destination tickets only for trips to stations outside Île-de-France.
  • Île-de-France Mobilités reports that 96.3% of occasional tickets sold in September 2025 were dematerialized, reflecting an almost 82% drop in magnetic ticket sales since January.
  • Alternatives include the €2 Navigo Easy card, the Île-de-France Mobilités app for purchase and validation by phone, and the Navigo Liberté+ pay-as-you-go option with monthly billing.
  • Holders can exchange or convert remaining cardboard tickets to a Navigo Easy pass during the transition, with station staff deployed to assist travelers.
