Paris Court Approves Partial Takeovers of Claire’s France, Preserving About Half the Jobs

A redundancy plan now covers staff not taken over.

Overview

  • The Tribunal des activités économiques de Paris validated two partial bids to run parts of Claire’s French business.
  • Roughly 450 of 830 employees will transfer, with most moving to jewelry retailer June and about 30 to La Casa de las Carcasas.
  • June obtained a 10-year license to operate the Claire’s brand and is set to take around 140 of the approximately 240 stores.
  • La Casa de las Carcasas will take three stores to sell its phone accessories, with other locations excluded from the deals.
  • A formal PSE is underway for non-transferred staff, many facing layoffs, as union lawyers also flag alleged irregular intercompany financial flows within the wider group, which includes a recent U.S. bankruptcy and Spanish insolvency.
