Overview

• The incident occurred just before 10 p.m. Sunday at Stillwell and Surf avenues when a 36-year-old man dressed in black grabbed a six-year-old boy off the crowded boardwalk.
• The boy’s parents and nearby witnesses pursued the suspect, who threw the child to the ground before fleeing, and held him down for about four minutes.
• Officers assigned to a nearby NYPD post arrived and arrested the suspect, who has had prior interactions with law enforcement.
• Charges remained pending Monday morning as the suspect continued to be held in custody.
• The six-year-old was taken to Coney Island Hospital with minor injuries and was released in stable condition.
