Parents Accused of Neglect Leading to 3-Year-Old Son's Death and Secret Burial

Tai and Naiyahmi Yasharahyalah are on trial for allegedly causing or allowing the death of their son, Abiyah, whose body was secretly buried in their Birmingham garden in early 2020.
Abiyah's skeletal remains, discovered in 2022, revealed signs of severe malnutrition, broken bones, rickets, stunted growth, and dental decay, according to prosecutors.
The couple reportedly adhered to an ultra-restrictive vegan diet and avoided medical care, claiming their actions were guided by their belief in natural remedies and spiritual practices.
Prosecutors argue the parents' decisions were motivated by a desire to avoid scrutiny from authorities, leading to what was described as 'breathtaking arrogance and cruelty.'
The defense contends the couple genuinely believed their diet and holistic approach were in their child's best interest, denying intentional neglect or cruelty.
