Overview
- Christopher Moynihan, 34, was arrested in Clinton, N.Y., after texts allegedly vowed to “eliminate” House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries at a Monday speech in Manhattan.
- New York State Police, working with the FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force, charged him with making a terroristic threat, a Class D felony, based on messages sent Friday.
- He was arraigned, pleaded not guilty, and is being held at the Dutchess County Justice and Transition Center in lieu of bail, with a court appearance set for Thursday.
- A felony complaint quotes texts stating, “I cannot allow this terrorist to live … he must be eliminated … I will kill him for the future,” with the recipient not identified.
- Jeffries called it a credible death threat and thanked law enforcement; records show Moynihan was convicted in 2022 for his role on Jan. 6, sentenced to 21 months, and pardoned on Jan. 20, 2025.
