Paramount Signs James Mangold to Overall Deal, Sets High Side as First Project

The pact anchors the studio’s post-merger push to lock in top auteur talent under co-chairs Josh Greenstein with Dana Goldberg.

Overview

  • Under the agreement, Mangold will develop, direct and produce feature films for the Skydance-owned studio.
  • High Side is first up, reuniting Mangold with Timothée Chalamet on a motorcycle heist story based on Jaime Oliveira’s unpublished short, with Oliveira adapting.
  • Peter Chernin and David Ready of Chernin Entertainment will produce alongside Mangold’s Turnpike Films.
  • Paramount previously won High Side in a highly competitive bidding war under the new leadership team.
  • The deal is the studio’s first filmmaker pact since the Skydance merger, joining recent moves like a four-year Duffer Brothers agreement and a live-action Call of Duty film arrangement with Activision.
