Paramount+ Sets Sept. 1 Premiere for The Varnell Hill Show

Producers position the series as a character-driven spinoff led by Tommy Davidson with Bentley Kyle Evans running the show.

Overview

  • Paramount+ announced the eight-episode, half-hour workplace comedy will debut with two episodes on Sept. 1, 2026, and release one new episode each Tuesday through Oct. 13.
  • Tommy Davidson returns as Varnell Hill, the loud late-night host he first played in a 1993 Martin episode, and leads an ensemble cast that includes Kym Whitley, Wendy Raquel Robinson, Nick Cafero, Emmanuel Hudson and Chris Williams.
  • Bentley Kyle Evans serves as showrunner, writer and director, and Martin Lawrence is an executive producer who will make special or recurring appearances on the series.
  • The show is produced in association with BET Studios and executive produced by teams from Jesse Collins Entertainment, Runteldat Entertainment and Harvest Studios, reflecting the project's move from BET+ to Paramount+.
  • The series premise follows Varnell fighting to stay relevant as network executives push modernization, a chaotic writers’ room causes trouble, celebrity guests complicate live TV, and family and ego create personal stakes for the lead character.
