Paramount Names Kenneth R. Weinstein Ombudsman for CBS News

The move fulfills a commitment made during federal review of the Skydance acquisition.

Overview

  • Weinstein will report to Paramount president Jeff Shell.
  • He will review complaints from employees, viewers and others, escalating matters to Shell and TV Media chair George Cheeks if action is warranted.
  • If further steps are needed, Weinstein, Shell and Cheeks will bring issues to CBS News president and executive editor Tom Cibrowski, who will recommend and implement any actions.
  • Shell framed the position as reinforcing truth, trust and accountability, and Weinstein said he aims to steward public trust.
  • A longtime Hudson Institute leader and former nominee for U.S. ambassador to Japan, Weinstein is currently the institute’s Japan chair; Skydance agreed with the FCC to install an ombudsman for at least two years.
