Parallel Missing-Person Cases in Argentina End in Rescue and a Homicide Investigation

Coordinated searches across Buenos Aires and Entre Ríos turned one case into a safe recovery and the other into a homicide inquiry.

Overview

  • Jorge Damián Da Rocha, 33, reported missing from La Plata, was located in Entre Ríos riding a bicycle on Route 14 and told police he was heading toward Misiones.
  • Authorities said Da Rocha was in good health and not a crime victim, and La Plata police closed the missing-person search after confirming his identity via a roadside check.
  • Da Rocha had left Tolosa to pick up his daughter before sending messages about going to Parque Pereyra; investigators reviewed CCTV, checked transit and account records, and coordinated interprovincial searches.
  • In Gobernador Mansilla, Entre Ríos, the body of 22-year-old Daiana Magalí Mendieta was found during a rural rastrillaje near the area where her Chevrolet Corsa had been found abandoned with the keys inside, with some reports indicating it was inside an aljibe.
  • A 55-year-old known as “Pino” remains detained after resisting an allanamiento with a firearm as investigators analyze seized phones, a Toyota Hilux and other evidence under prosecutors Emilce Reynoso and Sergio Saliski, with the case pursued as a homicide/femicide investigation.
