Overview
- Proyecto Guaraní–Revista Ysyry, launched in 2023 and presented Monday in Asunción, debuts the Oremba'e free online library and the printed anthology Che Ñe'ẽ, Che Purahei, safeguarding more than 14,000 works in Guaraní, Spanish and Jopará.
- The trove draws on Ysyry magazine (1942–1995), which published over 20,000 poems and songs, offering curated selections in print and broad digital access for the public.
- Paraguay’s National Secretariat of Culture has declared the initiative of cultural interest, and organizers say the archive will serve researchers, musicians and new generations.
- Official 2024 data report about 1.6 million Paraguayans identify Guaraní as their main language, 1.5 million use Spanish and 2.1 million are bilingual, even as fewer families pass Guaraní to children.
- In a separate preservation effort, the Department of Linguistics has interviewed 72 speakers over 60 to document oral histories, with transcripts to be published on its website.
