Paolini Set to Open WTA Finals in Riyadh in Singles and Top-Seeded Doubles

Her partner Sara Errani says she rested after feeling unwell, setting up a demanding week as the top doubles seed and a group-stage challenger in singles.

Overview

  • The season-ending WTA Finals run November 1–8 at the King Saud University Indoor Arena in Riyadh.
  • Jasmine Paolini drew Aryna Sabalenka, Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula in the singles round-robin group.
  • Paolini and Sara Errani are the No. 1 seeds in doubles and are slated to start Saturday against Asia Muhammad and Demi Schuurs at 1:30 p.m. Italy time.
  • Errani said Paolini skipped media day to rest because she was not feeling well, adding she is confident Paolini will be ready despite quick conditions at altitude.
  • Paolini clinched qualification by defeating Iga Swiatek in Wuhan, and an advance beyond the round-robin would be a first for an Italian woman, with significant points and prize money at stake.
