Pantone Launches First AI Palette Generator With Microsoft in Open Beta

Built on Azure AI with Pantone’s proprietary research at its core, the tool targets the early inspiration phase for designers.

Overview

  • The chat-based assistant in Pantone Connect generates prompt-driven color palettes with explanations using retrieval-augmented access to Pantone Color Institute insights.
  • Pantone trained the model on its own color data, psychology and forecasting so outputs reflect Pantone’s expertise rather than external sources.
  • The beta is available now to all Pantone Connect users, including free accounts, initially supporting the Fashion, Home & Interiors library.
  • Microsoft’s stack underpins the product, including Azure OpenAI, Azure AI Foundry, Azure AI Search and Azure Cosmos DB for scalability, security, multilingual use and content safeguards.
  • Pantone and Microsoft will tune the experience using engagement signals, with plans to expand to the full library and add material achievability, visualization and Color of the Year palettes.
