Overview

  • The Panthers announced the signing of veteran tight end Darren Waller and immediately waived offensive lineman Josh Gray and outside linebacker Nick Hampton with an injury settlement.
  • Waller is a former Pro Bowler who has about 374 receptions for 4,407 yards and 26 career touchdowns and led all tight ends with 107 catches in 2020.
  • Waller retired before 2024, returned to play for the Miami Dolphins in 2025 and finished that season with 24 catches for 283 yards and six touchdowns in a limited role.
  • Carolina has not disclosed contract terms but earlier reports described the deal as a one-year agreement that adds competition behind starter Tommy Tremble and may affect Ja’Tavion Sanders’s playing time.
  • The team still needs to complete medical clearance and formalize preseason roster steps, and Waller’s health after his 2025 injuries will shape his availability and short-term impact on quarterback Bryce Young’s passing game.
