PANAadhaar Linking Deadline: Four Days Left Before Unlinked PANs Turn Inoperative

Most taxpayers must first pay a ₹1,000 late fee on the e‑filing portal, with a waiver only for PANs issued after October 1, 2024 using an Aadhaar enrolment ID.

Overview

  • Unlinked PANs will be rendered inoperative after December 31, disabling income tax return filing, refunds, KYC and other financial transactions.
  • Linking is done on the Income Tax e‑Filing portal by validating PAN and Aadhaar, paying the challan via e‑Pay Tax, and submitting the link request with OTP verification.
  • The service is available to individual users whether or not they are registered on the portal, and status can be checked online through the 'View Link Aadhaar Status' tool.
  • If details do not match, corrections must be made via UIDAI for Aadhaar or through Protean (NSDL) or UTIITSL for PAN, with biometric verification available at authorised centres.
  • Processing typically takes four to five working days, and failure to link may also trigger higher TDS/TCS rates and pause payment and interest on tax refunds.
