PAN Files Complaints Over Interoceanic Train Crash, Names López Beltrán and Navy Figures

Opposition actions escalate scrutiny of a flagship corridor project through criminal plus audit avenues.

Overview

  • The PAN bloc lodged three filings with the FGR, the federal audit office and the Anticorruption Secretariat after the Dec. 28 derailment that left 14 dead and dozens injured.
  • The FGR complaint names Gonzalo “Bobby” López Beltrán, Rafael Ojeda Durán, Raymundo Pedro Morales Ángeles, Octavio Sánchez Guillén, Alan Tarsicio Cruz Saba, Jorge Amílcar Olán Aparicio and Pedro Salazar Beltrán.
  • Alleged offenses include influence peddling, corruption, illicit exercise of public service, abuse of authority and negligent homicide.
  • A victims’ family separately filed for injuries and abuse of authority, with their lawyers citing prior ASF findings and pointing to contractors Comsa Infraestructuras, Grupo Constructor Diamante and Daniferrotools.
  • PAN also requested comprehensive audits of the Interoceanic Corridor’s resources and procedures, and both the party and victims report that investigations and reparations processes remain pending.
