PAMI Renews November Drug Program With Targeted Free Coverage

The update alters drug affordability for millions by keeping defined high‑priority treatments fully covered, shifting most other medicines to tiered discounts, and raising the income ceilings that determine who gets free drugs after the November pension increase.

Overview

  • In November 2026 PAMI confirmed its Programa de Medicamentos, preserving 100% coverage for a defined list of high‑priority treatments rather than restoring universal free access.
  • Fully covered categories include diabetes care, oncological and oncohematological drugs, hemophilia, HIV and hepatitis B/C medicines, transplant drugs, certain ophthalmologic and rheumatologic therapies, and treatments for chronic kidney disease.
  • Medications outside those categories now receive tiered discounts: 50–80% for chronic conditions, 50–60% for acute conditions, and 40% for occasional use, with the remaining cost paid by affiliates.
  • PAMI updated the Subsidio Social income ceilings after a 1.93% pension rise, setting the limit at 1.5 times the minimum pension (about $666,238) and at 3 times the minimum pension (about $1,332,475) for households with a CUD, and kept means and asset tests and a 15% expense reconsideration route.
  • Applications can be made online or in person with DNI, PAMI credential and an electronic prescription, online requests cover up to four medicines with local UGL or central review for larger lists, and PAMI opened a reporting channel for app or registration failures.
