Palmeiras Back on Top of Brasileirão as CBF Sidelines Referees Over VAR Disputes

UFMG’s model now makes Palmeiras the title favorite, with a postponed home match against Juventude during the international window offering a chance to widen the lead.

Overview

  • Palmeiras and Flamengo are level on 55 points, but Palmeiras lead on the wins tiebreaker (17 to 16) after a 3–2 comeback at São Paulo and Flamengo’s loss at Bahia.
  • UFMG estimates the title probabilities at 60.6% for Palmeiras and 31.5% for Flamengo, with Cruzeiro at 7.4%.
  • Palmeiras have two games in hand overall and will face Juventude in a makeup at home during the break, which could open a three-point gap if they win.
  • The CBF removed referee Ramon Abate Abel and VAR Ilbert Estevão da Silva from the São Paulo derby, and Lucas Casagrande and VAR Gilberto Rodrigues Castro Júnior from BragantinoGrêmio, for internal evaluation and training.
  • São Paulo protested an uncalled penalty and a non-expulsion involving Andreas Pereira and requested VAR audio, but CBF protocol releases audio only when the referee is called to the monitor, which did not occur.
