Palm Beach County to Vote on 'President Donald J. Trump Boulevard' Renaming

Google Maps already shows the new name under a proposal that tasks FDOT with finalizing ceremonial sign designs for installation by September.

A portion of a South Florida road that runs from the Palm Beach International Airport to Trump's Mar-a-Lago home will be renamed to honor the president.

The Palm Beach County Board of County Commissioners is set to vote Tuesday on renaming a familiar road "President Donald J. Trump Boulevard," but the honorary designation — which covers the stretch of Southern Boulevard between Kirk Road and South Ocean Boulevard —already went live on Google Maps.

Overview

  • The Board of County Commissioners will consider an honorary renaming of the four-mile stretch of Southern Boulevard abutting Mar-a-Lago at its July 8 meeting
  • Google Maps began labeling the roadway as President Donald J. Trump Boulevard on July 7, ahead of any formal county approval
  • Under HB 987, FDOT has drafted green-and-white marker designs and plans to manufacture and install them by September if commissioners pass the resolution
  • The designation is strictly ceremonial, with Southern Boulevard remaining the official name for postal and emergency-response purposes
  • A separate set of signs will honor Corporal Luis Páez, Deputy Dan Diaz and Deputy Ralph “Butch” Waller by naming the 18000 block PBSO Motorman Highway, and county staff will seek public feedback before a final FDOT inspection
