Palestinian Students Shot in Vermont Believe They Were Targeted

The students, who were visiting for Thanksgiving, believe the shooter had seen them earlier wearing Palestinian keffiyehs and targeted them due to their heritage.

Three Palestinian students, Hisham Awartani, Kinnan Abdalhamid, and Tahseen Ali Ahmad, were shot in Burlington, Vermont on November 25, 2024, while visiting Awartani's grandmother over the Thanksgiving break.
The students believe the shooter, Jason Eaton, had seen them earlier wearing Palestinian keffiyehs and targeted them because of their heritage.
Eaton was arrested two days after the shooting and has pleaded not guilty to three counts of second-degree attempted murder.
The shooting left Awartani paralyzed from the chest down, and he is currently receiving treatment in Massachusetts.
The students believe the shooting is part of a 'larger systematic issue' of the dehumanization of Palestinians.
