Overview
- Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar arrived in Saudi Arabia to join the extraordinary OIC Council of Foreign Ministers meeting in Jeddah from 9 to 11 January.
- The session was convened to address Israel’s move last month to become the first country to formally recognize Somaliland.
- Pakistan’s Foreign Office said Dar will meet fellow foreign ministers on the sidelines to explore enhanced regional and international cooperation.
- During the visit, Dar will inaugurate the new building of Pakistan’s consulate in Jeddah, strengthening the country’s diplomatic presence in Saudi Arabia.
- Deliberations are set against Somaliland’s long-running de facto institutions and its strategic position on the Gulf of Aden that draws sustained security and trade interest.
