Overview
- CCP Chairman Farid Ahmad Tarar spoke at the State Administration for Market Regulation’s National Fair Competition Conference in Xi’an on Sept. 7–8, presenting Pakistan’s move to proactive, evidence-driven competition policy.
- The Commission has created a Market Intelligence Unit that Tarar said has flagged more than 225 potential competition cases to guide targeted investigations.
- Tarar said enforcement will concentrate on cartel detection, abuse of dominance, deceptive marketing and new risks from AI, big data, algorithms and digital platforms.
- To signal predictability to investors, the CCP reported issuing 121 merger clearances and granting 83 exemptions over the past two years, which it says facilitated about Rs29.65 billion in foreign direct investment.
- Tarar used the multilateral forum to seek deeper technical cooperation with peers such as China’s SAMR, and to preview planned work on a digital markets framework and market studies on e-commerce, fintech and digital advertising.
