Pakistan Shuts Multiple Motorways as Dense Fog Cuts Visibility

Drivers face daytime-only travel under Motorway Police guidance to reduce fog-related risk.

Overview

  • Motorway Police kept several sections closed for all traffic as a precaution, including M-1 Swabi–Burhan, M-4 Sher Shah–Sham Kot, M-5 Sher Shah–Sukkur, and M-14 Fateh Jang–Kot Badian.
  • Dense fog persisted across Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan and parts of Islamabad’s outskirts, severely reducing visibility on intercity corridors.
  • Visibility on the Indus Highway between Sehwan and Larkana fell to roughly 15 metres at points, with additional disruptions reported from Sakrand to Mirpur Mathelo.
  • Officials urged drivers to avoid unnecessary travel, use fog lights, slow down, maintain safe following distances, and strictly observe lane discipline.
  • Authorities set a 10:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m. travel window when conditions typically improve, deployed monitoring teams, and directed motorists to helpline 130 for assistance.
