Pakistan Set to Raise Fuel Prices From Oct. 1 Pending PM Approval

Final rates require the prime minister’s approval under Pakistan’s fortnightly pricing review.

Overview

  • The oil industry has proposed increases of Rs1.97 per litre for petrol, Rs2.48 for high-speed diesel, Rs1.76 for light diesel and about Rs4.64–4.66 for kerosene.
  • OGRA is forwarding the pricing summary to the Finance Ministry through the Petroleum Division for Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s sign-off before the announcement.
  • If approved, the revised prices would apply for the Oct. 1–15 period under the routine mechanism linked to global oil trends and exchange rates.
  • Current official rates are petrol at Rs264.61 per litre and high-speed diesel at Rs272.77, which implies petrol near Rs266.58 and diesel around Rs275 if the proposal is accepted.
  • Officials and analysts caution that a diesel increase would raise transport costs and put additional pressure on consumer prices and household budgets.
