Pakistan Says 25 Militants Killed, Five Soldiers Dead as Forces Foil Border Infiltration

The army describes the infiltrators as Fitna al-Khawarij, framing the actions as part of the Azm-e-Istehkam counterterrorism campaign.

Overview

  • ISPR reported two large groups tried to cross from Afghanistan near Spinwam in North Waziristan and Ghaki/Ghokhi in Kurram, with 25 infiltrators killed, including four suicide bombers, and a cache of weapons recovered.
  • Five soldiers were martyred in the engagements, with sanitisation operations under way and the military casting doubt on the Afghan interim authorities’ resolve during parallel talks in Türkiye.
  • In a separate North Waziristan operation in Jhallar, forces destroyed a vehicle being prepared for a suicide attack and killed three militants after what officials called credible intelligence.
  • Earlier in Tank district, an intelligence-based operation killed eight militants identified by officials as the India-backed proxy group Fitna al-Khawarij, with arms and ammunition seized.
  • The intensified actions followed twin IED blasts in Hangu that used a secondary-device ambush to kill SP Asad Zubair and two policemen, with police later saying two suspects were killed and no group had claimed responsibility.
