Pakistan Presses Taliban at OIC for Verifiable Anti-Terror Action, Proposes Expert Roadmap

Pakistan frames counterterrorism demands as part of an OIC-backed plan to reconnect Afghanistan.

Overview

  • Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar used the OIC Contact Group meeting in New York to urge the Afghan interim authorities to stop Afghan soil being used for attacks, citing the TTP, BLA, Majeed Brigade and ETIM as active threats.
  • Islamabad referenced a UN Analytical Support and Sanctions Monitoring Team report it says details logistical, operational and financial links between elements in Kabul and the TTP.
  • Dar reported that 12 Pakistani soldiers were killed earlier this month during clashes with TTP infiltrators along the border, underscoring the urgency of verifiable security steps.
  • Pakistan proposed an OIC working group of experts to craft a practical roadmap with reciprocal measures spanning security, humanitarian relief, economic stabilisation and regional connectivity.
  • The six-point agenda urges donor funding for aid, revival of Afghanistan’s banking system, support for ex-poppy farmers, lifting restrictions on women and girls, countering online extremist propaganda and preparing conditions for safe refugee returns.
